Winnie (Mbong Amata) was under the gun to settle down and get married by her parents. Her mother wanted grandchildren but Winnie’s love life was basically non- existent. It was during a phone call that Winnie lied to her mother that she was in a relationship with a man by name John as her fictional boyfriend, just to be at peace. But her mother took the intended peacemaking talk seriously and wanted to meet John. Winnie’s parent informs her that they will be coming to town.
Winnie had to scramble to find a man who will pretend as her boyfriend for the period her parents will be with her. She finds one through her friend at the office Gina (Mary Remmy) but it wasn’t going smooth as planned .Winnie get courage to approach her neighbor to pretend to be her boyfriend for the period her parents will be staying. John (Michael Godson) agrees with the plans. He is a handsome, charming man and he had experience with women. Winnie’s parents arrive and met John and find him amazing and loved him. This was going to smooth than Winnie expected. Winnie parents ask them how they met and they said “they met at the church”. Meeting in the church makes Winnie’s parents happy that there are still young men who respect God by going to church, but this was another lie.
After sometime, when John wants to host a dinner with Winnie’s parents at his apartment, Lillian (John’s girlfriend) shows up at the cost of preparation. Plans had to change due to the arrival of Lillian. Winnie had to lie to her parents that John will not be able to host them that night because is gas got finished, this was another lie to cover up the situation on ground. The dinner was postponed to another day. Winnie’s father found out that they were just pretending all the while, after the dinner.
This movie is formulaic (closely following a formula or predictable pattern). It is not original and extremely predictable but is also a memorable movie due to the solid foundation of skilled actors. From Michael Godson who simply commands the screen at every moment to Jenifer Eloign, Mbong Amata and Mary Njoku.
This is a story of opposites attract where a” good girl “mingles with a player. John pretended to be Winnie’s knight in a shining armor. As the two gamed her parents, it leads to a serious relationship. The story was character driven as Winnie (Mbong Amata) played a social inept woman that didn’t have a relationship experience. On the contrary, John (Michael Godson) was a Casanova and it is hard to believe that he abandoned his player lifestyle to help her. John was an appealing character due to the fact that he was so respectful and helpful to the family all through the period of pretends.
FAVORITE QUOTE: By John (Michael Godson ) “ EVERYTHING I DO, I TRY TO DO WELL” .Because I believe for everything you do, put more effort/interest to doing it well.
