SYNOPSIS

 Bambitious is a modern-day story (a drama) about a beautiful ambitious young lady named Bambi (Belinda Effah). She wants to climb high on the social ladder by catching “a big fish” i.e. getting married to a rich man. Due to her ambition to be wealthy, she breaks up with her boyfriend – Frank (Bucci Franklin) and gets acquainted with “a big fish” whom she later gets engaged to.

Meanwhile, she had been having unprotected sex with Frank (Bucci Franklin) only to find out she was pregnant for him, just as she gets engaged to Jerry (Daniel K. Daniel). Bambi (Belinda Effah) seduces Jerry (Daniel K. Daniel) to sleeping with her so as to claim the child she’s carrying is his, but Frank (Bucci Franklin) would not keep quiet about it. How would she resolve this?

ELEMENTS OF PRODUCTION

LIGHTING & SOUND EFFECT: The use of sound effect in this movie was very accurate. It wasn’t over-used like some movies where there’s always one song or the other playing at the background. The sound effects were appropriate for each scene in which it was used. Also the lighting was very good. There were no blurs and there was effective use of lighting to create moods like night time etc.

PICTURES: The picture quality was fantastic!

CAMERA SHOTS: A lot of camera shots were used in this movie and they are;

a)    a)    This is a Long Shot (LS). It was used frequently in this movie                                                                              long shot

a)      b)    This is an Extremely Long Shot (Ex LS). It was used mostly at the beginning of scenes but it wasn’t used much in the movie. This can also be said to be an Establishment Shot.

 REVIEW: This is a Nigerian movie I would recommend people to watch. Almost everything is perfect about it. The graphics and lighting are perfect, and if there were use of any special effect like green screen computer generated images (CGI) and the like, it was perfectly done because I couldn’t spot out anything that is not real. The characters played their respective roles perfectly well (except the nurse who brought Bambi (Belinda Effah) and Jerry’s (Daniel K. Daniel) test results but who cares! She’s not a major character)

However, what is depicted in the movie as being “ambitious” is simply being a “gold digger.” Being Ambitious is “having a desire to be successful, powerful or famous.” Bambi (Belinda Effah) left Frank (Bucci Franklin) because he was broke and fell in love with Jerry (Daniel K. Daniel) because he was “a big fish” (rich). Bambi (Belinda Effah) here doesn’t desire to become successful, she simply wants to marry a rich man in other to climb higher on the social ladder which simply put is being a gold digger.

CONCLUSION: This movie would be a perfect movie if not for the error in the portrayal of the message passed to the audience. However, the movie successfully portrayed how Bambi (Belinda Effah) contributed to making Frank (Bucci Franklin) a successful man. Although it seems like she was doing him bad initially, it was all for his good. According to Frank (Bucci Franklin) “AMBITION ISN’T A BAD THING IF NO ONE IS HURT IN THE PROCESS.”
