Heroes and Villains is a romantic comedy about a couple, Kiki (Belinda Effah) and Pablo (Seun Akindele) having issues in their marital life. They filed for a divorce from Brown, a lawyer who is a family friend to the couple. He sought for an alternative other than divorce and organized a 2 weeks’ vacation for them in Summerset Continental Hotel outside their town.
He gave both of them a notepad each to write whatever they didn’t like about each other and fill it with everyday experience of the vacation. Pablo made new friends that night they got to the hotel when he went out to get dinner after an argument ensued between him and his wife over dinner. He met Jide (Chucks Chyke) who had a fight with his girlfriend that night and Latoya (Ivie Okujaye) who he found interesting as she was not on the supportive side of women in their discussion about men and women. Pablo became friends with Latoya and he told her about his family issues.
Kiki on the other hand met Latoya while she was being harassed by a man while jogging one day. The couple confided in Latoya, unknowing to both of them, Latoya was suffering from psychological trauma. The couple sorted out their problems and when they thought they were a couple again, Latoya scattered everything they had built up.
The acting was excellent. The actors played their roles well especially the traumatized role Ivie Okujaye played. The lesson this movie portrays to the audience is that couples should learn to settle their differences and not involve a third party in their marital affair. The lighting director did a good job as the lighting was good and there were no blurry scenes in the movie. Even in the night, we could recognise each actor.
The makeup artist did a wonderful job as Latoya and Kiki were looking beautiful. The costumes were light clothing such as skimpy dresses, hats etc. Some scenes were shot by the pool side plus the clothes denoted that it was summer. The title of the movie doesn’t correlate with the storyline. A more suitable title would have been appropriate for this movie.
In the scene where Kiki(Belinda Effah) was ignoring Pablo(Seun Akindele) and was supposedly watching football, the television was shown partially, it was observed that the football match had not even started all the while she was screaming. The movie did not end well as we were not fully made to understand Latoya’s problem or the cause of her psychological trauma. Apart from these flaws, the movie is a recommendable movie. The following error was noticed in the movie too:
CONTINUITY ERROR: In the flashback Kiki had of good times with her husband, she wore the same shorts in two different scenes. Also the camisole and leggings Latoya wore when she met Kiki who was being harassed by a man while she was jogging was the same she wore when she invited Kiki for yoga practice.
