SYNOPSIS

In the movie FALSE featuring Kate Henshaw, Kalu Ikeagwu and Uche Jombo. Greg Adebanjo (Kalu Ikeagwu)an unlucky husband wanted to eat his cake and have it, by playing love with a stranger via Blackberry messenger popularly known as BBM despite having a dutiful and dedicated wife of eight years Tosin Adebanjo(Kate Henshaw).

In a twist of plots, the stranger known as Emelda (Uche Jombo) taking the play too far, believed the mirage and romance of BBM to be real, went to Kalu’s house and demands that Tosin leave her matrimonial home for her which is Emelda. Kalu while trying to save his marriage got caught in the thick but unproven web of manslaughter/ murder; was this a classic case of BBM romance gone too far? Or was it all a cause of an undetected health challenge?

ELEMENTS OF PRODUCTION

SOUND EFFECT: sound was properly utilized in the movie. Unlike normal Nigerian movies where the theme song is sung all through suspense, drama and all. But the sounds used in the movie properly suited each scene.

EDITING: the use of “ALTERING EXPECTED CONTINUITY” was used really well too. This was in the scene where Emelda had the broken bottle in her hand and wanted to stab Tosin, just as she advanced to her the scene was cut off leaving the viewers in suspense. Then we see blood on Greg’s shirt not knowing whose blood it is.

SHOTS AND ANGLES: there were various shots and angles used in the movie, below are examples of some:

vlcsnap-34713      -OVER THE SHOULDER (ANGLE)

vlcsnap-38897     -MEDIUM SHOT

vlcsnap-36920     -LOW ANGLE

  vlcsnap-35465  -LONG SHOT

REVIEW

To say this movie is just a good movie would be an understatement on my part, it is a movie to be recommended. From the script to the producing of the movie, it is quite exceptional and not the kind of “cliche” Nigerian movies we are used to. The acting was so professional and amazing I couldn’t even imagine any other person in any of the main roles, they all played their part so well and emotions were so believable.

I would have given this movie a 10 except for some errors in continuity, facts and audio.

Continuity error: In the sitting room, Emelda (Uche Jombo) claimed to know that Greg (Kalu Ikeagwu) was wearing the ash colored boxers his wife bought for him because they had sex that morning. During the flashback, the day he told her he was wearing the ash colored boxers, he was not wearing the same shirt he wore that morning.

Secondly, when Greg (Kalu Ikeagwu) snuck out of bed to go downstairs and talk to Emelda (Uche Jombo), the camera shows his blackberry which showed the call had lasted “0.50”. About 15 seconds later, we see the phone again. This time it shows “0.05”, ten seconds after that, it shoots up again to “0.54”.

Factual error: Greg’s (Kalu Ikeagwu) father was said to have died of osteoporosis. Asides the fact that osteoporosis is a disease that occurs especially in women following menopause, in which the bones become extremely porous and subject to fracture but according to research osteoporosis does not kill.

Also, Doctor Bella (Okonkwo Monalisa) said an x-ray showed that Emelda’s (Uche Jombo) blood vessels were damaged. An x-ray does not show blood vessels.

Audio error: When the security guard gives Emelda (Uche Jombo) Greg’s (Kalu Ikeagwu) address, the audio from his speech seems to have been recorded separately.

But regardless of all these flaws, the movie is excellent. The concept and storyline is really good, it is one of those movies that proves that it’s not all Nigerian movies that one can tell the end from the beginning and the beginning from not just the title of the movie but also the song which is sung so many times that it becomes a part of every beginning of a scene. And the acting was so impressive, so many times I didn’t even know whose side to be on, because they all played their part so well that till now I still don’t know who was really at fault from the three main characters.

CONCLUSION

Psychosis: a severe mental disorder, sometimes with physical damage to the brain, marked by a deranged personality and a distorted view of reality.

The movie creates awareness about psychosis, a mental disorder that according to the Doctor Bella (Okonkwo Monalisa) is rampant among many Nigerians. Due to this disease, not only did Emelda (Uche Jombo) lose her life but also she wreaked havoc in the Adebanjo family and with the way the movie ended it didn’t seem like there would ever be peace in that home. And of all the Nigerian movies I have seen this is certainly the most impressive, I recommend it and I can assure you won’t regret it.

Favorite quote: by Emelda (Uche Jombo) – “END OF AN ERA BEGINNING OF ANOTHER” because I believe this is the beginning of a new era in the Nigerian movie industry.
